The Bobcats’ five wins tied for the most wins in history. The last time the Bobcats won five games was during the 2019-20 season.
“Watching this program grow each year and make the playoffs in arguably the toughest region in the country, is a huge honor and accomplishment for the team and school,” head soccer coach Mike Beatty said.
The Bobcats have been led by Daniel Suvak when it comes to scoring. He’s recorded 11 goals and two assists, good for 24 total points. They’ve also had two steady goalkeepers in freshman Birkir Haraldsson and sophomore Fernando Calzada.
“I am very glad that we reached the goal that we had set at the beginning of the season,” Haraldsson said. “I think it’s also special that every single player on the roster has played a vital role in getting us there. It’s a special team that can go all the way if every player shows up 100% ready for the fight.”
“Being here for two years and qualifying for the Region 4 Tournament is a giant achievement. It’s going to open up a lot of opportunities for our team,” Calzada said.
Another essential part to the Bobcats’ success this season was sophomore defenseman Joe Ntalaja who's missed just one game in his career.
“It’s great we made it to the playoffs and coach made the right moves,” Ntalaja said. "We finally made history at BSC.”
Bryant & Stratton College (WI) will be playing South Suburban on Oct. 31. If men’s soccer wins, it’ll play Prairie State.
“South Suburban is a huge battle for us, and Tony always has his guys prepared, so all the focus is on playing a solid match Thursday," Beatty said.
