Bobcats drop road test to No. 9-ranked Heartland
Two-run home run propels Hawks by Bobcats
NORMAL, Ill. — Bryant & Stratton College (WI) baseball fell to No. 9 Heartland 6–3 on Tuesday despite an early lead and a multi-hit day from Calvin Hurtgen and Andrew Carlson.
The Bobcats struck first in the opening inning when Hurtgen singled to bring home his brother, Jake Hurtgen, for the game's first run.
Heartland answered with two runs in the bottom of the second, but the Bobcats evened the score at two in their half of the third inning. But the Hawks answered back with a two-run home run and the No. 9-ranked team in the country shut down the Bobcats the rest of the way, allowing them to score just once more in the top of the seventh. Heartland added two more runs later in the game to secure the 6–3 victory.
Parker Bleck started for the Bobcats, allowing six hits and four runs (three earned) over three innings while striking out three.
Notes:
- Calvin Hurtgen finished 2-for-4 and recorded an RBI
- Carlson finished 2-for-3 with a walk
- Nick Heisl had a solid outing in relief going two innings with four strikeouts and allowing one hit.
Up Next: The Bobcats are off until March 17, where they'll open Region 4 play against the MATC Stormers.
