MILWAUKEE, WI (February 7, 2018) – The Bryant & Stratton College men's golf team traveled down to Melbourne, FL over the weekend to compete in the 2018 Titan Winter Invitational where the Bobcats finished in 16th place. This was the Bobcats first tournament since the regional tournament that took place back in October.
The first round consisted of 36 holes and the Bobcats performed very well considering they had a long break from the fall season. National Qualifier, Maxwell Rohlinger, was +2 through 11. Another National Qualifer for the Bobcats, Garrett Waloway, was +7 through 12 holes.
"After having a few months of no competition, I thought the guys competed well," Bobcats head coach Andy Runkel said. "There were some very talented golf programs competing in this tournament and the guys held their own."
Through the first 18 holes, Rohlinger finished at 76, Waloway at 82, Murrie at 88, Bleich at 85, and Gosse at 93. The individual scores gave the Bobcats a team score of 331 as only the top four scores are counted.
The Bobcats took on the second round and finished with a score of 355. Rohlinger shot an 81, Waloway 84, Bleich 93, Murrie 97 and Gosse 101.
"We struggled a little bit in the second round," Runkel said. "But we also had some great approach shots and made some tough putts which was good to see."
The final round took place the following day and Bleich led the way for the Bobcats through the first 14 holes shooting +4.
"It was good to see Thomas play well in his first tournament," Runkel said. "He was not able to compete last semester but he worked extremely hard on his game and it showed on the course today."
To conclude the final round, Rohlinger finished shooting a 77 followed by Waloway with an 84, Bleich 85, and Murrie 92. Gosse did not compete in the final round due to an injury.
The Bobcats finished the tournament with a team score of 1,034.
Taking the positives from this tournament, Coach Runkel and the Bobcats will look ahead to their next tournament as they continue to improve every day.
