MILWAUKEE, Wis. (September 19, 2017) – Bryant & Stratton College has hired Dean Smith as the first men's head soccer coach of its Wisconsin program for the inaugural season starting in the fall 2018. Smith will lead the launch and development of the Bobcats on and off the field.

Smith has begun recruiting high school senior student athletes for the 2018 fall semester as he looks to put the Bobcats on the map immediately.

Bryant & Stratton College belongs to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region IV. Competing at the Division I level gives the opportunity to offer athletic scholarships to student athletes. The team is currently independent of a conference.

Bryant & Stratton College currently offers nine intercollegiate sports which includes men's and women's basketball, men's and women's golf, softball, baseball, women's volleyball, and men's and women's soccer.

"We are excited to have Dean join the Bryant & Stratton College family," said Bryant & Stratton College's Athletic Director Greg Brandner. "Dean has an outstanding track record of coaching and developing athletes in the game of soccer. When we evaluated Dean's long history of success as a junior college coach, it made him an easy choice to be the person in charge of launching the program."

Smith brings 15 years of coaching experience at the collegiate level. Smith served as the head men's soccer coach at Elgin Community College (Elgin, Ill.) where he led the program to a conference championship in 2004. Currently, Smith also serves as the Director of Coaching for the Algonquin Lake in the Hills Soccer Association where he oversees 550 plus athletes on multiple club teams.

Smith also competed professionally from 1995-99 in Shrewsbury Town FC & Burton Albion F.C., UK.
"I can't wait to get started on recruiting, scouting and evaluating potential athletes that will make a positive difference to the team," coach Smith said. "But just as important is to bring in quality characters and personalities into Bryant & Stratton College whom will represent the college with integrity, class and dedication."

"This is not going to be an easy job," Smith said. "Bryant & Stratton College will be competing in one of the strongest Division 1 NJCAA regions in the country (Region IV), but this is what excites me. I completely feel the support of the Bryant & Stratton College athletic staff and believe the incremental plans to invest the time, effort and resources will set up future success."

Smith holds an Assistant Sports Teacher Award, a GNVQ in Leisure & Tourism and Professional Sports Management Diploma. Coaching Licenses: USSF B, NSCAA Advanced National Diploma, NSCAA National Goal-keeper Diploma and a F.A. Coaching Certificate.

Smith currently resides in Palatine, Illinois with his partner-Jessica and son-Alec.
